Tarte ‘BB Confidence Creamy Powder Foundation’ Review

Tarte seems to be one of those brands that is always releasing new make up items more than any other make up line. And honestly, I think I’ve reviewed so many Tarte products that it makes me feel like I should stop. But summer is fast approaching and I don’t want to be fussing with a liquid foundation in the summer. So I decided to try some powder foundations.

I liked the idea of this Tarte one because it’s a BB powder foundation. So, I decided to give it a try.

Packaging:

Tarte is one of the few brands that wins with packaging. Their packaging recently is colorful and extremely inspirational. Looking at the products they come up with, it always makes me smile and makes me feel good about myself.

This one is no exception.

This product has a gorgeous gold base with the signature purple writing on top. When you open the package, it comes with the standard sponge but also comes with a gorgeous pouch with inspirational words written on it.

Plus, this powder is called Confidence. Does it get better than that?!

Initial Application:

I bought a new brush to use this foundation with, and I will say that it is an extremely fine powder. And when you initially dust it on, it doesn’t seem to do much, but the more you put on the more it covers. Unfortunately, it does not cover dark circles well.

Left is with one layer and the right has nothing on it. Dark circles are not covered as can be seen.

Once you put on a good layer, you definitely see your skin, but see your skin in the way we all want it to be: perfect, no flaws. It builds a beautiful canvas for your face.

Now, when I first tried this, it was a powder, so I thought I wouldn’t need to put powder on top of it. I mean, it’s a powder foundation so why do I need to powder up right? Boy, was I wrong.

I also wanted to see how it went with or without primer, just to see if I would need that extra step.

Lasting Powder:

Turns out, this powder foundation still requires powdering up.

Within a good couple of hours, I was one shiny mess. And I usually don’t even notice my shine until the end of the day, and even then it is very minimum.

I also don’t usually feel greasy in the middle of the day. And honestly, this powder foundation missed the mark for that. It made me feel like one big grease ball and I did not feel confident all day. (Because I also made the mistake of not bringing any powder or blotting papers with me, the first day I tried it.)

And one other thing, I use Origin’s cleansing oil and usually, by the end of the day, I can see the make up wash off my face. But when I went in with the oil, it came out with nothing. It was like there was no make up left on my face to wash off. The water wasn’t the foundation/powder color I expected. So unfortunately, the lasting power isn’t the best.

And with the primer, the only difference I noticed is that the side without primer, my contour got all patchy, and my blush was pretty much non-existent by the end of the day.PhotoGrid_1458597089309And later on (like two weeks after), I tried it with my trusty Laura Mercierr Loose Setting Translucent Powder and honestly, by the middle of the day, instead of feeling like an oily grease ball, I definitely feel much more normal. So even though this is in powder form, beware.

Furthermore, I don’t know if it’s just me but I think this powder oxidizes a little. It seems that after initial application, it gets more tan than when I first applied it. And it is definitely darker on my skin than in the pan.

Final Thoughts:

Unfortunately, while this product means well, it doesn’t perform as well as expected. Especially for a Tarte product.

I will still use it, probably when I am a shade or two tanner since it will match me better, but it won’t necessarily be something I will naturally gravitate towards.

It does still make my life easier in the morning coz it’s quicker and less messy than my liquid, so that is also another reason why I will be using this. If I had to give an opinion, I would recommend it for what it does, but if you are expecting a powder foundation that doesn’t oxidize, and doesn’t need additional setting powder, then maybe steer clear of this product.
