Snow befell us in Northampton, MA on Friday, February 5th, 2016.
I woke up this morning, oblivious to the fact that it was snowing. As soon as I opened my drapes, I swore. Very loudly.
Contrary to what people think, snow isn’t great. It gets slushy, ruins shoes, and can be extremely dangerous at certain times.
But I think what makes people love the snow so much, is the pureness of it all. Before it has been trodden on, before it has been slid one, and before it has been rained on, it is a blanket of comfort, a blanket of warmth (despite the fact that it’s cold), and it’s a blanket of beauty.
Whenever I look at the beauty of the snow when it initially fell, it looks so beautiful, especially on the bare arms of trees.
The light to dark contrast of snow on the tree branches make be think of the yin and yang sign, how despite their differences, they work in perfect harmony together.
But going back to fashion, despite the fact that it snowed, it wasn’t super cold as one would think. At least not for a few minutes before the chills hit you!
I have found a love in ear muffs, that keep one stylish and still protects the ears. Of course, in a snow storm, one should have both earmuffs and a beanie. But in Northampton, earmuffs suffice.
Since November, I have been sporting my large Calvin Klein winter coat. Despite the designer name, it was on the affordable side. Despite the way it looks, it is light and keeps all the warmth in.
It is due to snow after this coming week, and I am not looking forward to that. But it’ll be okay. Because at least I have a large winter coat, fashionable clothes, and a roof over my head.
