I remember being so excited when they announced that they were making a sequel. I loved the first movie so much that I pretty much bought the soundtrack. It was great.
So naturally I had high expectations for the second installment and, let’s be real, usually they are quite terrible. Especially if the first movie is an original.
However, when I sat down at the movie theater, I was inevitably excited.
And keeping with the original movie, this one was just as funny, just as sassy, and just as perfect.
There has been a large time lapse– Becca and her friends are now seniors, and it seems like they have still kept the original members for the most part. But then you are thrown into a new Bella, Emily. She’s so awkward it’s cute.
If I had to truly describe this movie, I would say that it is a bigger version of the first Pitch Perfect. The sets were bigger, and so were the consequences. In some ways, you could say that they probably changed a bit of the first script but just kept the original formation. I know that sounds mean, but if you really think about it deeply, it’s very similar.
However, that does not mean you should not watch this.
Because the comedy is real. You laugh. Hard.
Omg, and they even added love scenes! Which is fine…but the characters they chose to have a love scene was so awkward and uncomfortable that I couldn’t watch. I kind of wish they developed Emily and… ****** (I don’t want to spoil anything!) more because they would’ve been cute to watch. Or given Becca and Jesse more screen time as a couple. Regardless, it was cute how they added that in.
And I know I’m going to sound quite mean when I say this but… the songs in this movie wasn’t that great.
In the first movie, almost every song I heard them sing I bought. I played them on repeat for so long. But in this movie, when it ended, the only song I was slightly excited about purchasing was Flashlight, and even then, when I saw that they didn’t put on the Barden Bella’s version but Jessie J’s version, I was disappointed.
The music could’ve been better.
I’m not saying they are bad. I’m saying that they are not good enough to be bought, by my taste. If I have to buy music, it has to be so good I am excited about it. But if it’s only mediocre, I’m not going to spend money on it. That’s what Soundcloud has become for me– a music station where I do not have to commit to a certain song but can still listen to it until the novelty runs off.
Anyway, I would say that the music is my biggest disappointment. Other than that, the entire movie was amazing. Even though the music isn’t money worthy, it is still quite catchy and good. The movie is definitely worth watching! And if it comes out in a 2 DVD set with the first movie, I will definitely be buying!
Oh, one last thing, I don’t think there will be a 3rd movie. Or if there will be, it will be a new cast and then…well, we will have to see. It would be like if HSM decided to revive by bringing in the younger versions of the original cast. How interesting would that be…
Plot: 4/5 (the one point was for the music mostly)
