Kat Von D ‘Shade & Light Eye Contour’ Palette Review

I was actually debating whether or not I wanted this when it was available for VIB/Rouge members because I actually wanted to try to hit pan on my Tartelette Palette before I bought a new one, but I saw Tati do a preliminary swatch and she said it was matte so… even better! 20150415_230528

So I got it. And I must say, I am not really regretting it.

The palette itself is very sturdy in your hands, but that also means it is quite heavy.

I don’t quite understand why it is so chunky…but that’s probably because it has a nice sized mirror that makes it a lot heavier and thicker than it should be.

Now, when you buy this palette it comes with pretty detailed instructions for use telling you what is for what so you know what color to use on your lid to define it.

It also has amazing pictures to let you know how to use it and it definitely helps.

When I dipped my brush in, my initial reaction is that it is extremely powdery. So powdery that I have to tap my brush a lot more often than with my Tartelette palette.

Now the next thing I am about to say will sound kind of confusing so let me just explain.

In picture: Left with eye shadow base, right without.

On one eye I used an eye shadow primer, and on the other eye I just put in on. Let the world know that I have oily eye lids.

Anyway, so, without eye shadow primer, it takes a lot more work to build the intensity of the color in order for it to show and define. I noticed that it took a lot more dips into the color to get the same intensity as when I did it for the eye with eyeshadow base.

After 6 hours of wear

In general, the color just did not last very long without eyeshadow primer (but like I said, I have oily eye lids…).

The color intensity of the color definitely diminished at around the 9 hour mark but you could still see the different colors used generally even though it was more unison now.

After a full 12 hours of wear.
“Cool Quad”

In general though, the eyeshadows very extremely pigmented. As you can see from the swatches they are beautiful and quite neutral colors that you can definitely mix together if you want.

I love how I have almost every single color I will ever need in this palette if I want to travel.

Now, I cannot have a review without talking about the packaging.

“Warm Quad”

I’m not going to lie, one of the biggest reasons I didn’t want to purchase it was the packaging. I am not a huge fan of her packaging so this is actually the first item I own from her. I feel like I was being kind of stupid to not try a product because I wasn’t a huge fan of her packaging… it is cool, but not for me.

Something else in general that I am curious about, is why the base color is so huge…

I get that you probably need more but I feel like she could’ve designed it better into quads rather than in this format.

One thing that I could probably say about this product that can be seen as negative of sorts, is that the first two high light shades are pretty much the same. While the intensity isn’t the same, the difference is almost negligible. That’s not even bad because you can use them both for a good brow high light. But, as someone who doesn’t do her brows, it’s pretty useless for me.

In general though, I love this palette and do not regret purchasing this palette what so ever.

It’s quite remarkable and I will have this for a very long time.

I love matte eye shadows…because then I don’t have to worry about balancing the color intensity haha

If you have it, let me know what you think!

If I convinced you to bite the bullet…I’m sorry?

Don’t forget to SM:)LE today!
